Too often we become lost in our own world, caught up with trivial things that seem to only bother us, and more often than not they are merely inconvenient and not an actual problem. We log onto Facebook and see people’s seemingly perfect lives, and wonder how everyone but us has their shit together. We concern ourselves with what we do not have, rather than being grateful for what we have.
It is easy to fall into this trap, because we feel that since we work hard, we “deserve” certain things. We carry this notion into all aspects of our lives and forget that we were put on this earth for a very short time, so we better make it count. Part of making it count is being grateful for what we do actually have. For several years, we all had a friend and coach named Kris Garza. He inspired us, made us smile, hugged us and taught us that even those who have very little can give so much. You see, life isn’t about what you have, it’s about what you give.
We honored brother Kris this past Saturday by working out in his honor and giving to a charity picked by his beautiful sister Kat, the Scotty Deem Memorial Fund. Our efforts and fundraising will go to help another family who lost their hero, an act which I believe embodies Kris Garza’s selfless spirit. Thank you to all who showed up and honored our fallen brother. Your presence at the event warmed the hearts of the Garza family and made life without him that much more bearable. I am proud to know you all and love you very much.
While we mourn the loss of our brother Kris, let us not be ungrateful for what we have.
